When will you all stop? I understand it’s that time of year where topics to write about for us sports authors are a little bit fewer and farther between, but how many times do we need to recycle Vikings QB trade narratives that revolve around the Vikings not being confident in J.J. McCarthy?
What has happened to signify that the Vikings aren’t confident in the kid? The trade-up for him was small, but did it not exude confidence? What about the one where Minnesota let Sam Darnold, fresh off a 4,300+ yard and 35 TD season, simply just walk away to the Seattle Seahawks in favor of starting McCarthy? This rumored “lack of confidence” in McCarthy is simply fake news, and a story that was developed and continually perpetuated by the corrupt Big Football media.

I don’t know how many more times I can come across trade speculation for a QB “just in case” McCarthy struggles when researching the Minnesota Vikings football organization before I full-on crash out.
It’s not really that complex; if McCarthy isn’t the guy, then it’s over. That’s not me saying that everyone on the Vikings’ coaching staff and everyone in the front office will be fired if McCarthy blunders, but all that the Vikings have built upon, ever since O’Connell and Adofo-Mensah were hired, has banked on succeeding on some point with a QB on a rookie deal.
The trade for a QB in 2025 happened already, and it was the one for Sam Howell during the draft, and that’s that. The Kirk Cousins return to Minnesota has been discussed as recently as June 14th in the same article that trades for Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Anthony Richardson trades got discussed.

Ah yes, “Dorian Thompson-Robinson” would be the perfect guy to trade for to save the Vikings in case McCarthy sucks! Heck, what’s Deshone Kizer doing these days?
I don’t even understand the continued conversation past the Sam Howell trade happening. The only semi-legitimate reason to discuss a potential “replacement” QB would be if McCarthy got hurt again, and that’s literally why the franchise made the move for Howell. There are no more moves to be made.
Even if the Vikings stink up U.S. Bank Stadium and the rest of the venues that they’ll play American football in this season, it’s not likely the Vikings would pull the plug on McCarthy completely after one bad season, especially when he missed his entire rookie season due to injury.

These continued QB rumors can be had before the 2027 season if McCarthy truthfully sucks, and no earlier than that. The Bears stuck with Justin Fields for three seasons, for perspective.
I am but one voice shouting into the void of the internet, but if there were ever a time to censor the internet and some opinions on it, it would probably be now on behalf of my precious McCarthy.
