Texans Star Names Unexpected Pick for NFL's Best Lineman

The Houston Texans pass rush was bolstered this season as Will Anderson Jr. was joined by Danielle Hunter and the dynamic duo combined for 23 sacks in 2024. The 2023 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year increased his sack totals from 7 to 11 despite missing three games.

Pro Football Focus graded Anderson at 85.1, 10th-best among edge defenders.

The NFL is full of devastating, mammoth offensive linemen like Detroit's Penei Sewell or San Francisco's Trent Williams, who have received numerous awards and accolades.

However, when ESPN's Kevin Clark asked who was the game's best offensive lineman he played against, Anderson provided what could be viewed as an unexpected answer for a lineman still building up his formidable reputation.

"Number 50, Tom from Green Bay," said Anderson. "Zach Tom. He's legit."

Clark followed up, "What'd he do to you?"

"He's like a quick-setter," Anderson replied. "He punches really quick, and he has a really good step off the ball, kick off the ball. He's good. He's more on the leaner side. Quick feet, explosive hands. He gets back really well."

A fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft for the Packers, Tom plays right tackle for Green Bay. Pro Football Focus gives Tom an 87.6 grade, ranking him fourth among offensive tackles.

Tom has yet to receive much recognition from the league. He wasn't named to this year's Pro Bowl or selected to any All-Pro teams. In 2024, he played in 98.7% of the Packers' offensive snaps and 97.3% in 2023.
