Pittsburgh Steelers defense dealt huge blow before Bengals game with likely loss of star pass rusher
Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker Alex Highsmith is doubtful to play against the Cincinnati Bengals. He had practiced the last two days, but Highsmith remained just limited in both practices, likely signaling that he is one week away from returning.
Highsmith suffered the injury against the Washington Commanders while jumping to stop a screen from quarterback Jayden Daniels. He landed on Daniels' foot, which rolled his ankle. After the game, Highsmith was on crutches, and it was ruled as a severe low ankle sprain.
While that should mean some positive things for the Steelers, such as the fact that this injury should not linger all season, it did mean Highsmith needed time to recover. While he is close to playing, he is not fully there just yet.
The Steelers also ruled out cornerback Cory Trice Jr. and defensive tackle Montravius Adams. They will both need to be activated from injured reserve to play.
