The Las Vegas Raiders entered the offseason with a lot of decisions to make.
After a season that ended without making it to the playoffs, the Raiders knew they had to go back to the drawing board, hoping to come up with some new ideas, schemes, and roster pieces to help them take the next step.
One of those changes seemed to be to solidify their quarterback situation.
They seemed to have things figured out after Derek Carr left, as Jimmy Garoppolo looked like the heir apparent.
However, after injuries and off-field issues, Garoppolo ended up being booted from the roster, once again causing the Raiders to reevaluate.
Now, they are in a two-horse race between Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell, as both players are gunning for the starting job.
Head coach Antonio Pierce was recently asked by Jonathan Jones about who he’s leaning toward, and he made sure to give an honest answer.
“We need to see somebody say… ‘AP, I’m the guy. I’m the QB for the Las Vegas Raiders,'” Pierce said.
Pierce believes that the right quarterback will take the reigns on this position when they are ready, but it could take time.
The Raiders do have a few more weeks to solidify their plans, as more training camp and the preseason are yet to come.
If they wait too long, however, it could spell disaster for a team that’s trying their hardest to make good decisions and keep themselves moving in the right direction.
