The Pacers have been one of the more disappointing teams in the NBA to begin the year, opening the season with a 10-15 record after a trip to the East Finals. The team is opting for some changes now beginning with waiving reserve center Moses Brown. The former Celtics big man had signed with Indiana last month after the team lost James Wiseman and Isaiah Jackson to Achilles tear, decimiating their backcourt depth.

Brown made just nine appearances for the Pacers off the bench, averaging 3.2 points and 1.4 rebounds per game. However, he had fallen out of the rotation in the past week, playing for just one minute in Indiana’s last three games. Brown was on a non-guaranteed deal so he will just count against the salary cap for only a few weeks of salary for his minimum deal.
Brown has been well traveled during his NBA career with the Pacers being his eighth different team in seven NBA seasons. The 7-foot-2 big man was originally acquired by the Celtics back in 2021 as part of the trade that sent Kemba Walker and a first round pick to the Thunder for Al Horford. Brad Stevens elected to move on from Brown before he ever had a chance to play for Boston though, dealing him in July 2021 to the Mavericks in order to land Josh Richardson.

Brown has played for six different teams since that trade in 2021 and has made 159 appearances some going undrafted out of UCLA in 2019.
With Brown released, the Pacers currently only have one true center on their roster in Myles Turner. With the start of trade season looming on Dec. 15, the team could opt for a deal or free agency to fill that void. The Celtics will face the Pacers twice in Boston later this month on Dec. 27 and 29 at TD Garden.
