The Ole Miss football team has enjoyed plenty of success in recent seasons under head coach Lane Kiffin. He and his staff have churned out countless NFL Draft picks, as well as a handful of first-rounders.
Jaxson Dart was the Rebels' quarterback for the last three seasons and helped the team reach three bowl games and set a school record with 11 wins in 2023. He was selected No. 26 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft by the New York Giants.
Coincidentally, his former Ole Miss target, wide receiver Antwane "Juice" Wells Jr., also signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent this offseason.
Dart and Wells have seemingly carried their rapport to New York that they established back when they were Rebels. Wells recently made a strong statement about what Dart brings to the Giants just before their first NFL training camp begins.
"Of course, his strong arm, his ability to scramble around the pocket and make explosive plays," Wells said. "His toughness to run through defenders and jump over people and all that type of stuff. But besides all that, he's just a great guy. He's really big on building relationships, and his attitude- that's the definition of a guy that hates losing more than he loves to win, I promise you that."
Wells sang Dart's praises on the field, but the two also have a special relationship when the pads come off.
"It's like a sense of comfortability, being around him," Wells said. "You are kind of at home a little bit. You can kind of relax a little bit, things not as intense. You got that one friend from home; we can go out to get dinner sometimes, and we go just to kick it and just talk about our day."
This is exactly the kind of leader that Rebels fans thought Dart was, but it is nice to hear that he is bringing this same approach to the NFL level. Wells also credited him for being a studious football player.
"And it also helps learn the playbook, because he wants to go through walk-throughs and stuff like that, and we're both learning at the same time. So it helps us out a lot, we're learning the plays together. We all in the hotel, chilling, just laid back; It's nice."
While Dart is a lock to make the roster, Wells will have his work cut out for him this preseason. The first opportunity to watch these two former Rebels at the professional level will be an exhibition game between the Giants and Buffalo Bills on August 9.
