Seattle Seahawks have an ace up their sleeve in 2025 thanks to savvy roster building strategy

2025 has shaped up to be one of the most anticipated seasons in recent memory for the Seattle Seahawks.

Seattle Seahawks have an ace up their sleeve in 2025 thanks to savvy roster building strategy

That's mostly due to the amount changes they have made to their offense. After trading quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders, Seattle is now rallying behind new QB Sam Darnold, who it signed during free agency.

The Seahawks parted ways with their top two wide receivers in DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. Jaxon Smith-Njigba will now step into the No. 1 WR role, and new acquisitions such as Cooper Kupp and Marquez Valdes-Scantling will also be vital pieces.

The Seahawks will have a young and cheap offense heading into the season. In fact, according to the 33rd Team, Seattle has the least expensive offensive unit in the NFL, coming in at $99.9 million on the books for 2025.

The top 3 players who will have the biggest salary cap hits for Seattle's offense this year are tight end Noah Fant at $13.4 million, Darnold also at $13.4 million, and Kupp at $9.35 million.

That sets the Seahawks up nicely to hand out contract extensions to down the line, but it also gives them an ace up their sleeve for 2025. If they feel as though they are one more playmaker away from making a serious postseason run, they have plenty of money to make a trade happen.

The Seahawks currently have the 10th-most overall cap space in the league at $31.2 million. That is more than enough to make a splash trade in the middle of the season if needed. Skill position players such as RBs, WRs, and TEs are usually always available on the trade block.

Last year we saw big name WRs such as DeAndre Hopkins and Amari Cooper get dealt just before the trade deadline. Seattle's defense could be one of the best in the league this year season, allowing the team to focus in on improving the offense. The Seahawks could unload even more money by finding a trade partner for Fant, especially if rookie TE Elijah Arroyo develops quickly.
