Late-night leak reveals date of J.J. McCarthy vs. Jim Harbaugh clash

Thanks to an NFL schedule rumor that was shared early Wednesday, we potentially now know when former Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy and the Minnesota Vikings will take on his former head coach at the school, Jim Harbaugh, and the Los Angeles Chargers.

As the majority of Vikings fans were already asleep and dreaming of the perfect 2025 schedule, Wide Left's Alex Katson revealed that Minnesota will take on Harbaugh and the Chargers in a Week 8 Thursday night matchup.

Wide Left's Arif Hasan was the first one to reveal that the Vikings would be playing in Dublin, Ireland, against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4 and against the Cleveland Browns in London, England before the official announcement on Tuesday, so there's reason to believe what Katson shared on Wednesday is legitimately true.

In the time since helping lead Michigan to a victory in the College Football Playoff National Championship in the 2023 season, McCarthy and Harbaugh have both had vastly different experiences in the NFL.

The former Wolverines quarterback was, of course, selected by Minnesota with the 10th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. McCarthy then, unfortunately, suffered a knee injury in his first preseason action with the Vikings, and it forced him to miss his entire rookie campaign with the purple and gold.

As for Harbaugh, he returned to the NFL as the head coach of the Chargers last year. With his help, Los Angeles managed to win 11 games for the first time since 2018 and they earned a spot in the playoffs.

Both franchises are trending in the right direction with the former Wolverines leading the way, and it's safe to say that both McCarthy and Harbaugh will be doing everything they can to lead their respective team to a victory when the Vikings and Chargers face off next season.
