Deion Sanders could be a contender for the New York Giants or Miami Dolphins head coach jobs if the East Coast teams disappoint in 2025. A new report reveals what it would cost them to break the NFL legend from his expensive new contract at Colorado.
There is a lot of pressure on the Giants’ head coach, Brian Daboll, this year. The former Bills coordinator had a big debut season in New York. Three years ago, the team went 9-7-1, reached the playoffs, and upset the Vikings in the Wild Card Round. It has been a disaster since, as the G-Men have posted a 9-25 record over the last two seasons.
That, matched with rumors of issues with players and his staff, has Daboll on the hottest seat in the NFL. However, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel could be a dark horse to lose his job after this season. Miami has had just one losing season with him leading the way the last three years. But he has been a big supporter of fragile QB Tua Tagovailoa. If the former first-round pick and his team are not in contention to reach the AFC Championship game this season, McDaniel could be the fall guy.
One name that will surely be linked to the Giants and Dolphins in a potential head coach search will be Colorado Buffaloes HC Deion Sanders. But he can’t just leave and take an NFL job next year. A new report has revealed what it will cost either team to buy out Sanders’ contract after the season.
It would cost New York Giants $10 million to buy out Deion Sanders’ Colorado contract
“Primetime” signed a new five-year, $54 million extension this week. While it makes the NFL Hall of Famer one of the highest-paid coaches in the college ranks, it also means a huge buyout for whatever franchise wanted to bring him back to the pros.
Following the news of his extension, NFL Network producer Matthew Bubar took to X to reveal what the yearly buyout fee is in Sanders’ new pact.
“If Sanders leaves the Buffs for a pro or college job before Dec. 31 of this year, he would owe CU $12M in liquidated damages. That number drops to $10M if he leaves before Dec. 31, 2026, $6M in 2027, $4M in 2028, and $3M before Dec. 31, 2029.”
It is possible the Giants could move on from Daboll before the end of the calendar year. And want to lock up Sanders immediately. Which would mean a $12 million charge. However, they would more likely have discussions with him early next year and would bring a $10 million fee if they hired him.
