Despite Rams opposition, the Eagles retain Tush Push for 2025 rematch

Yes, the Los Angeles Rams face the Philadelphia Eagles at least once in 2025. But if the Rams and Eagles have their expected level of success, they will have a second showdown in the 2026 NFL Playoffs. That means the Rams will have multiple opportunities to stop running back Saquon Barkley this season. It also means that the Rams will have numerous opportunities to face and stop the one play that has become even more famous than 'Philly Philly.'

La NFL no cambia sus reglas: siguen el 'Tush Push' y el formato de los Playoffs - ClaroSports

We're talking about the Tush Push, a.k.a. the Brotherly Shove.

The proposal to ban the Tush Push was introduced earlier in the offseason, but did not have the necessary votes. What is it? We'll clarify that soon enough. For now, it's a quarterback sneak that is a bit different in that the running back and wide receivers line up behind the quarterback to give him a bit of an extra boost at moving the pile.

Rams HC Sean McVay has described it as not looking like a football play. Rather, it resembles a rugby scrum play.

To ban the play, the NFL requires 75 percent of NFL teams to agree to the ban. Of 32 teams, that works out to 24 teams required to vote against the Tush Push. Only 22 teams were in favor of banning the controversial play:

As you can see from the roster above, the Rams were in favor of banning the play. And if you recall, Rams HC Sean McVay is an active member of the NFL competition committee, the committee that was the first to hear pros and cons about the play.

Of course, the Philadelphia Eagles' social media accounts monitored the situation very closely. What does the Tush Push look like? If you are still confused, fear not. The Eagles made it a point to create a 26-minute video of the play, and you can click this link to see it.

But wait, there's more.

The proposal to ban the Tush Push had to be introduced to the NFL by one of the NFL teams. The team that proposed banning the Tush Push was the Green Bay Packers. And the Philadelphia Eagles had a special message for the Packers after the votes were cast and the Tush Push survived for another year:

The Rams face the Eagles in Week 3. Once more, the game will be played at Lincoln Financial Field, but the game will take place on September 27, 2025, and 10:00 am PT. I'm a bit surprised that NFL schedulers did not see the game as worthy of filling a prime-time slot.

The Rams will get a chance to test out their newly installed run defense. Will it be enough to stop the Eagles? We'll know in four months.

As always, thanks for reading.
