Lamar Jackson Wants Ravens To Sign 2-Time Pro Bowler

Lamar Jackson encouraged the Baltimore Ravens to pursue a big-name free agent.

The Green Bay Packers released cornerback Jaire Alexander last week. Jackson would love to reunite with his former Louisville teammate.

On Tuesday, Jackson sent a message to Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta in the middle of a question about Alexander.

"Go get him, Eric," Jackson said, courtesy of Ravens Vault's Bobby Trosset. "I love all our corners, don't get me wrong. But go get him, Eric."

Jackson confirmed that he reached out to the two-time Pro Bowler about playing with Baltimore. The two-time MVP doesn't know if his recruiting pitch landed.

"Yeah, I hit him up, but you never know with Jaire," Jackson said. "That's my boy."

Seven years ago, Alexander was one of the 31 players drafted before Jackson. At his best, he gave Green Bay one of the league's premier shutdown cornerbacks.

Alexander earned a second-team All-Pro designation when he tallied five interceptions in 2022. However, injuries have limited Alexander to seven games in each of the last two seasons.

The Packers cut Alexander after the two sides couldn't agree to a restructured contract. He would have received $17.5 million, none of which was guaranteed, this season.

"In his seven seasons with the Packers, Jaire established himself as one of the premier players in the NFL at one of the game's most challenging positions," Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said in a statement. "His contributions to our organization were felt on the field, in the locker room and in our community, and he will be missed. "We appreciate all he gave and we wish him all the best moving forward."

Only the Jacksonville Jaguars allowed more passing yards than Baltimore (244.1 per game) last season, but the Ravens ranked 15th in opposing quarterback rating (91.1). Slot corner Marlon Humphrey and last year's first-round pick, Nate Wiggins, return to start. Chidobe Awuzie could play the other side from Wiggins, but a healthy Alexander could offer a secondary upgrade.
