The Seattle Seahawks aren’t in dire need to upgrade their pass rush before the 2025 NFL season. The Seahawks finished tied for eighth last season in sacks. But when a superstar such as Micah Parsons potentially becomes available, teams should at least consider the addition.
SI on Seahawks’ Matthew Schmidt argued Seattle should strongly consider it. Schmidt proposed the Seahawks trade a first-round and third-round draft pick, along with edge rusher Derick Hall, for Parsons.
“Hall, a first-round draft pick and a third-rounder could be enough to get Dallas’ attention, especially if Parsons forces Jerry Jones’ hand. It might require a bit more than that, but let’s keep in mind that even Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett was only rumored to have been able to fetch one first-round selection had the Browns traded him earlier this offseason,” wrote Schmidt.
“If need be, the Seahawks can either upgrade the third-rounder to a Round 2 pick or potentially throw in a future selection, as well.”
Schmidt made his proposal on Wednesday. It was quite timely.
On Friday, Parsons publicly stated he doesn’t want to play for the Dallas Cowboys anymore. The edge rusher added he placed a trade request with the organization.
Micah Parsons’ Trade Request for Dallas Cowboys
Parsons has been seeking a long-term deal this offseason to stay in Dallas. The edge rusher is set to enter the season on his fifth-year rookie option.
But Friday, Parsons gave up the idea that a long-term extension will come from the Cowboys.
“Yes, I wanted to be here,” Parsons wrote in a length social media post. “I did everything I could to show that I wanted to be a Cowboy and wear the star on my helmet. I wanted to play in front of the best fans in sports and make this Americas team once again. The team my pops and I grew up cheering for way up in Harrisburg, PA.
“Unfortunately I no longer want to be here. I no longer want to be held to close door negotiations without my agent present. I no longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization our fans and my teammates.”
Parsons continued: “I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me. I had purposely stayed quiet in hopes of getting something done.”
It will be interesting to see how the Cowboys respond. Cleveland Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett made a similar trade request in February. But about a month later, Garrett signed a record-setting deal with the Browns.
Parsons could similarly ink a record-setting deal with his next contract. Such a deal will likely pay him more than $40 million per season.
Biggest Potential Obstacle to Seahawks Acquiring Parsons
Giving up the draft capital and a developing edge rusher in Hall, along with paying Parsons a record-setting deal would be a lot for the Seahawks. But that might not even be Seattle’s biggest obstacle to a blockbuster trade for Parsons.
“It should be noted that Seattle did sign former Dallas defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence in free agency, and Parsons and Lawrence definitely have a checkered history,” wrote Schmidt.
DeMarcus Lawrence and Parsons engaged in an ugly social media spat this offseason. Ironically, though, the argument started with Lawrence suggesting the Cowboys wouldn’t win a Super Bowl.
Right now, it seems as though Parsons might be in favor of some Dallas criticism. So, maybe the two edge rushers could co-exist in Seattle.
The Seahawks trading for Parsons would be an aggressive win-now move. The organization would have to feel comfortable giving up Hall to make Schmidt’s trade package work.
Hall broke out with eight sacks, six tackles for loss and 20 quarterback hits in 2024. He’s one of the bright young edge rushers around the league.
Trading for Parsons would also mean the Seahawks not having a first-round pick to address another need in the 2026 NFL Draft.
