The Bears are going to need a new coach this offseason.
It very well could end up being Thomas Brown, but also, after watching their 38-13 Week 14 loss to the 49ers on Sunday, it could very well end up being literally anyone else. Even if it's not *the* job of the offseason, Kevin Warren wasn't entirely wrong when he waxed poetic how enticing the job opening would be. It'll be a big enough deal to attract some big names, which is the only thing keeping Bears fans sane over the last month of the year.
One of those big names happens to be Kyle Shanahan, which sure is awfully convenient this week! SF's season has also been a bummer, and it's led some people to speculate that both the team and Shanahan would be better off going their own separate ways. For some reason enough people made them jump from "Christian McCaffrey is hurt" to "Kyle Shanahan wants to save the Bears" that it came up after the Week 14 game.
Kyle Shanahan gives very unsubtle answer to very unsubtle question about recent Bears conversation
Well that settles it!
But on the other hand, no it doesn't. I don't see a ton of praise specifically for the 49ers in that answer. Maybe he's talking about where he lives? The Bay Area is gorgeous. And what exactly does "any place in the world" really mean? Maybe reading this on paper doesn't effectively convey his sarcasm. Hopefully the reporters in the room did the right thing and followed up with 6-7 questions.
So now that Bill Belichick isn't coming, and now that Kyle Shanahan isn't coming (unless he is, which we can't be sure of yet), the Bears' coaching picture is starting to become ever slightly more clear. The rumor hasn't been bouncing around the internet nearly long enough to already be over. We were guaranteed a whole month of this type of speculation, and we're going to get our whole month.
