The Golden Bachelor star Theresa Nist has moved on with her life after her tough time on the show, especially in the aftermath of her devastating marriage and quickie divorce from Gerry Turner. Theresa was introduced along with the rest of the cast of The Golden Bachelor season 1, who were the first group to be part of the Golden side of The Bachelor franchise. Theresa and the rest of the women of the franchise were excited to get to know Gerry as the first ever Golden Bachelor, hopeful they’d be able to find love with the 70-something widowed grandfather.
While Gerry connected with many of the women on the show, his connection with Theresa went beyond the others. The pair were able to see eye-to-eye on their values, the way their lives had panned out, and the struggles they faced in dating after losing their longtime loves. Gerry ultimately proposed to Theresa during The Golden Bachelor season finale, and during the live aftershow, the pair announced they’d be getting married a month later. Their wedding, a Bachelor Nation event, was televised for millions of viewers, but things broke down quickly. The pair announced their divorce just three months later.
Though Gerry and Theresa had a decent connection, the issues in their relationship weren’t resolved before they went into a marriage, which made it more difficult for them to work through problems. After their split, Theresa took a break from Bachelor Nation and focused on herself and her family, who were featured on the show several times. Theresa’s children and grandchildren have always been her number one priority. Reconnecting with them after such a major life change was the only thing on her agenda. Though it had appeared that the couple had been dealing with issues behind the scenes, both Gerry and Theresa had been adamant about wanting to make their relationship work long-term. Theresa’s several grandchildren were understandably a huge deal to her, and she decided that the aftermath of her very public relationship should be spent reconnecting with them as much as possible.
