Chiefs' biggest positional strength will be the main reason they three-peat as Super Bowl champions

The Kansas City Chiefs won their 2022 and 2023 Super Bowls in a much different way than we are used to seeing them win games in the past. They were always known as the high-flying offense, which was faster and better than everyone. They would go deep, do trick plays, and score quickly and in demoralizing ways.

In 2022, they didn't have the weapons to do that. Their offense was still dangerous, but it was more efficient, where they had to be much more precise and kill opposing teams' defenses that way. It worked, too, but a lot of the time, it was more about working the ball downfield, whether it be by way of check-downs or anything else that would slowly move the sticks.

Last year was somewhat the same. However, the offense was not nearly as good. The Chiefs had to rely on their defense way too much last season. Luckily for them, they had one of the better units in the league on that side of the ball. The biggest reason they won the last two Super Bowls was not because of their offense, but the strongest position on their offense and on their team - the quarterback.

Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback in the league and the best player in the world, and we are approaching the greatest of all-time status. Mahomes has that label because of his accolades, but also because of what he has had to do in the big one repeatedly. He does it himself sometimes and always wills his team to win when it matters most.

That is why Mahomes himself is the Chiefs' biggest strength going into 2024, and Pro Football Focus seems to agree.

Biggest strength in 2023: Patrick Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes is the great equalizer for this team. Not only did Chiefs receivers have a lot of problems, but his offensive tackles were shaky as well, as neither Donovan Smith nor Jawaan Taylor managed a PFF grade of 60. Yet it didn't matter, as the Chiefs won the Super Bowl for the second consecutive season and the third time in five years. As long as Mahomes is under center, the Chiefs should always be considered among the favorites in the AFC.

In 2024, the Chiefs will have much better weapons around Mahomes than they did in 2023. But that's not hard to do. The Chiefs have made sure they have enough weapons around him after seeing his struggles last season. If there is anything we learned, though, it's that no matter what, you cannot count out Mahomes.

He is the reason the Chiefs have an advantage over any team.
