Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla has earned quite a reputation in the NBA, so much so that he has his players calling him a “sicko”, and Jaylen Brown added a new example of why this is the case during his latest appearance on the “Hot Ones” show.
During the interview with Sean Evans, Jaylen Brown revealed how Mazzulla has the team running schemes under their “Killer Whale” offense.
“One of the things he’s coined is that we call our offense the ‘Killer Whale’ offense,” Brown said while eating hot chicken wings. “We attack seals, because killer whales, how they hunt seals. We study how killer whales attack as a unit. And we kinda built our offense off (that). Joe definitely has a lot of crazy stuff but it’s a method to his madness, and obviously, it works.”
There’s a method to Joe Mazzulla’s madness, as the 2023-24 Boston Celtics were one of the most dominant offensive teams in history, posting the highest Offensive Points Per Possession (oPPP) of any NBA champion over the previous 20 seasons at 123.2 points per 100 possessions (per Cleaning The Glass).
Jaylen Brown is excited to defend the Boston Celtics’ NBA championship
The Boston Celtics have a huge target on their backs as the defending champions, and Jaylen Brown is ready to take on the challenge in 2024-25.
“I’m ready to go. I’m excited about being back,” Brown said during the team’s media day. “The past is the past, but I’m ready to get after it, lead our guys, build some team chemistry, not skip any steps, and just set the tone for another year again.”
Jaylen Brown has all the motivation this upcoming season because he felt he was snubbed multiple times this year after missing out on the All-Defensive and All-NBA teams and not getting the call-up from Team USA during the Paris Games.
