Alabama football landed its first wide receiver of the 2026 recruiting class on Monday. Owen Cabell committed to the Crimson Tide, continuing Kalen DeBoer and his staff’s recent run of success.
Cabell is a three-star prospect, who plays his high school football at Chris Presbyterian in Nashville. He chose the Crimson Tide over a group of finalists including Vanderbilt and Illinois.
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Cabell had 973 receiving yards with 14 touchdowns on 43 catches last season for the Lions. 247Sports’ composite ratings place him as the No. 166 wide receiver in the 2026 class.
Cabell became Alabama’s 15th commitment in the 2026 class. The 247 composite ranked the Crimson Tide’s group as the nation’s eighth best.
Cabell likely won’t be the last receiver in Alabama’s 2026 group. The Crimson Tide is a major player for five-star Cedarian Morgan from Alexander City, who is set to announce his commitment on Wednesday.
Alabama got hot on the recruiting trail during the month of June. UA has landed a haul of commitments, including five-star edge Xavier Griffin.
Other highlights of the group include five-star cornerback Jorden Edmonds and four-star Jackson running back EJ Crowell. The 2026 class already includes a quarterback, after Jett Thomalla flipped his commitment from Iowa State to the Crimson Tide.
Among SEC schools, only two have 2026 classes ranked higher than Alabama’s, including Georgia (No. 2) and Texas A&M (No. 4).
Wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard served as primary recruiter for Cabell, according to 247Sports.
