On Sunday, the Los Angeles Lakers suffered a 116-102 loss against their city rival, the Clippers . Lakers star Anthony Davis didn’t have the best night as he had 16 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks in 35.7% shooting from the field. After the game, Davis addressed what went wrong with the team.
Los Angeles couldn’t keep up with their rival and trailed as much as 26 points during the second and third periods. They remained in the game but couldn’t cut the lead, which led to their eventual loss.
Davis claimed that the Clippers had an advantage over them in the game because of their small errors.
“So many simple mistakes. No game plan discipline,” Davis said after the game. “Fouling James Harden a couple times and they got some offensive rebounds. Anytime we made a run, they made a run of their own. We didn’t shoot the ball well tonight either. Did like the fight but against teams like that, pretty good teams, we have a great stretch and then we have two or three mistakes in a row and they capitalize every time. Gotta play great basketball when you’re playing good teams like that.”
The big man talked about what they could do better as a team moving forward.
“Not turn the ball over,” Davis noted of what they can do better. “Can’t control makes or misses but some nights we struggle to shoot the basketball and some nights the ball goes in for us. I think defensively we did a pretty good job, got back in the zone. I think in the third quarter they kind of came out prepared.”
Davis and the Lakers will be back in action on Tuesday, against the Washington Wizards.
Lakers’ head coach was ‘happy’ with the team’s efforts despite the loss
The Lakers’ game against the Clippers was highlighted as the Purple & Gold team had noticeable turnovers. Despite their loss, however, head coach JJ Redick was happy with how they performed and the effort the roster showed.
“It was one of those games where you want you offense to help your defense, and didn’t make shots, turned the ball over,” Redick said. “I thought we did a good job. Eleven possessions of zone in the first half, they scored eight points. We did a good job of mixing it up. I can say they have a great team.”
He also credited the opposing team’s big man, Ivica Zubac, for how he played against Davis. The former Lakers center finished the game with 21 points, 19 rebounds and three blocks.
