Maxx Crosby has become a household name in NFL circles, but it wasn’t always that way. He was a fourth-round pick of the Las Vegas Raiders and had to work his way up to being the All-Pro player he is today.
One player who has long been a champion of Crosby is former Denver Broncos star pass rusher Von Miller. He was one of the first players to see how special Crosby is, despite his longstanding rivalry with the Raiders.
The two now work together on the annual Sack Summit that sees many of the NFL’s top pass rushers work together to help get better and also help mentor younger defensive linemen. Miller was one of the co-host this year, alongside Crosby and New Orleans Saints defensive end Cam Jordan.
Miller has been super happy with how Crosby has developed as a player over the years.
“I saw it from day one watching the film,” Miller said of Crosby, via The Athletic. “For him to develop into the type of player he is now, it’s like watching your little brother become (expletive) Superman.”
Over the years, Crosby has cemented himself as the face of the Raiders franchise. He’s been their best and most loyal player, despite undergoing several head coaching changes.
This offseason, there was some concern that Crosby might finally want out after Antonio Pierce fired. New Raiders general manager John Spytek quickly moved and signed him to a massive three year contract extension.
Crosby was flattered that the new regime was eager to get him paid.
“It’s an honor, obviously, having the Raiders with a new staff and new regime come in and show me that type of respect,” Crosby said, via The Athletic. “It means the world. Like Spytek said, it’s not about what I’ve done, it’s about what I’m about to do. … And we’ve got a lot of work to do.”
With the NFL titling the scales in favor of the offense with each new rule that passes, it’s important for defensive linemen to constatnly work on their craft. That’s why the Sack Summit has become so important.
“Everybody comes in different shapes and sizes, and you can always learn from somebody,” Crosby said. “Guys are getting bigger, faster, stronger, more athletic. They develop faster. … I watched Aaron Donald and Von Miller and Cam when I was a pup. And I was like, ‘I don’t think I could ever play in the NFL.’ These dudes are so good, but it motivated me to try to chase them.”
Even though a lot of these guys are on rival teams, they still want to support in each other in their neverending goal to get after the opposing quarterback.
“That’s what this whole thing is about,” Crosby said. “Obviously, we’re on different teams, but for this weekend we’re on the same team together. … The pass-rush community is a very tight-knit one. You learn from the best. Seeing those guys and what they do to win, for me it’s just about taking as much information as I possibly can and trying to apply it into my game.”
