The Baltimore Ravens have a history of drafting franchise cornerstones. Whether they be All-Pros or key starters throughout their tenures, they strike gold on a lot of their picks. The team always finds a way to get the most out of their guys, and even those who may not reach Pro Bowl level can carve out a crucial role with the team.
Outside linebacker Tyus Bowser was one of those players. He was selected in the second round, 47th overall, in the 2017 NFL Draft, and while it took a few seasons to reach his peak in Baltimore, he eventually flashed and showcased what he could become. He started all 17 games in 2021 and tallied seven sacks, which led the Ravens.
That breakout campaign earned him an extension in the following offseason, inking a new four-year deal worth $22 million. However, just when it seemed like Baltimore had a blossoming star at pass rusher, a torn Achilles ended his 2022 season prematurely. Then, a knee injury before 2023 forced him to miss all of the next season.
Following the onslaught of injuries, Bowser’s Ravens career came to a close. It got ugly near the end, as he filed a grievance against the team due to how they handled the injury, but he later withdrew the filing. Regardless of how it ended, Bowser was a fan favorite in Baltimore.
Since then, Bowser has played for the Seattle Seahawks and Miami Dolphins, but has failed to find his footing in the league since returning from injury. Going into 2025, he is without a home, but the 30-year-old deserves another shot to showcase his talents in training camp at least. Here are two teams that could use Bowser’s services as they progress towards camp.
2 teams that should look into giving Tyus Bowser a camp invite
Washington Commanders
The Washington Commanders desperately need help in the pass rush room. Linebacker Frankie Luvu led the team with eight sacks, but they lacked much production from any of their secondary options. While Bowser has not managed a sack since 2022, the unit is lackluster, and it would be wise to give him a call to try to help rejuvenate the group.
Bowser could also become a favorite of defensive-minded head coach Dan Quinn. He is as versatile as it gets, proving to be a reliable defender on all fronts-pass rush, run defense, and pass coverage.
New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints lack depth on the edge. Carl Granderson has developed into a quality pass rusher, and teammate Chase Young can also put up strong sack numbers. But, there are no reliable options at the position outside those guys.
The team gets some additional pressure from their interior defensive line, but Bowser could prove to be a crucial rotational defender at outside linebacker. With just Granderson and Young putting up sack numbers at the position, they need another body heading into camp. Bowser is just a phone call away.
The former Houston Cougar has been on and off practice squads and NFL rosters for the past few years. He could be on his way out of the league. However, with so many pass-rush needy times, Bowser deserves one last shot.
