It’s a one-year pact

Fans of the Minnesota Vikings got to wake up on Sunday morning to some news that they had been hoping to see for at least a few days, and possibly a bit longer.

Numerous sources, led by Adam Schefter of ESPN, are reporting that the Vikings have agreed to a one-year contract with cornerback Stephon Gilmore. The deal is worth up to $10 million and contains $7 million in guarantees.

We went over Gilmore’s bio a bit when he visited the Vikings earlier in the week, and it’s an impressive one. He is now one of the oldest players on the roster for the Vikings but has continued to play at a high level and should add quite a bit to a cornerback room for the Vikings that has had its struggles this preseason.

With the signing of Gilmore, the Vikings have a pretty solid top three of Glimore, Shaq Griffin, and Byron Murphy Jr. in their cornerback rotation. They’ve also got Akayleb Evans behind them and a host of younger players who are battling for a couple of roster spots at the bottom of the depth chart.

Gilmore also gives Brian Flores the sort of press-man corner that excels in his style of defense and should give the team even more flexibility on that side of the ball.
