Video: Jeremiah Smith, cousin of Geno Smith, has electrifying Ohio State debut

Ohio State University knows a thing or two about recruiting and producing great wide receivers, and their newest freshman is poised to continue the tradition.

In the Buckeyes’ season opener against the Akron Zips, Jeremiah Smith caught 6 passes for 92 yards and 2 touchdowns in a predictable 52-6 romp. A star player at Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory in Hollywood, Florida, Smith was the number one high school recruit in the country regardless of position.

Take a look at his highlights from the Akron game below:

If you somehow completely skipped the headline, Jeremiah Smith is the cousin of Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith. He’s posted about him on social media several times:

For a team that has seen Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, Marvin Harrison Jr, and the Seahawks’ own Jaxon Smith-Njigba all taken in the first round over the past couple of years, it seems like the 18-year-old Smith is on track to be another high draft pick when he’s eligible.

There will be tougher opponents than Akron to come for Jeremiah and Ohio State begin Big Ten conference play, which is all the more reason to tune in and see if Smith really is the next great Buckeyes receiver... and possibly next great NFL receiver.
