Vanderpump Rules Producer Alex Baskin Teases Reboot as Season 12 Films

Finally, what we’ve all been waiting for is coming! This morning on Nick Viall’s podcast, The Viall Files, Vanderpump Rules executive producer Alex Baskin spilled some tea about Season 12.

Vanderpump Rules reboot

As fans know, the OG cast had run its course and was essentially broken by #Scandoval, which left the cast divided. When some of them refused to film together, it became clear that producers would have to start from scratch if the show were to continue. That’s when Pump Rules took a hiatus, pending recasting.

The reboot promises to return to the show’s original concept, when the drama focused on Lisa Vanderpump’s SUR restaurant and its young wait staff.

Alex Baskin, Vanderpump Rules EP, promises “messy” reboot with Season 12

“Obviously, Vanderpump is iconic,” began Natalie Joy, Nick’s podcast partner, who’s also his wife. “Are you a part of the revamp? How are you feeling about it?”

“Yeah … I’m excited about it,” Alex responded. “The big thing I keep emphasizing is we are not trying to do the thing we did before. We’re not trying to make the show that we did before. You can’t do that. It’s very big shoes to fill.”

But he’s confident the new cast will be able to “win people over.” The show is going back to its roots of a “very tight-knit group that works together, lives together, does everything together.”

“When we announced [the reboot] in the first place, [producers recognized] that it would be met with some skepticism,” he continued. “The audience hasn’t yet had a chance to fall in love with the new group and the new show.”

But the wait is almost over, as the cast is in place and cameras have started filming.

“It’ll be all the things that the audience loved about [VPR] in the first place,” Alex concluded. “It’ll be messy and just a fun ride.”

Vanderpump Rules is now streaming on Peacock and on Hayu in the UK and Ireland.
