The NFL has a big disparity when it comes to franchise success. On one hand, you have the New England Patriots, who have won six Super Bowls in the last 25 years alone. Then, there are teams like the Cleveland Browns, who have never won a Super Bowl.
A lack of franchise success can make fans of that franchise pretty miserable. Two “cursed” teams in this regard have had their fanbases voted as the two most miserable in sports because of this. Read below to find out which two teams these fans root for.
New York Jets and Cleveland Browns Fans Voted Most Miserable in Sports
Recently, Big Game Boomer asked fans of its podcast to vote for the most miserable fanbases in all of sports. Well, there were two NFL teams that stood out among the rest.
These were the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns. The Jets and Browns came in first and second in this poll respectively. When you look at the franchise history of these two teams, you can start to see why these fans are so miserable.
New York Jets’ NFL History
The Jets have just one Super Bowl title in 58 years. This came way back during the 1968-69 season, when QB Joe Namath guaranteed the Jets would win Super Bowl III. New York’s win here still may be considered the greatest upset in football history, as they defeated the heavily favored Baltimore Colts.
However, things have not been pretty since then. The best days since then were arguably the 2009-10 seasons when they were led by QB Mark Sanchez and head coach Rex Ryan. In Jets fashion, those men are more remembered for a butt fumble and a foot fetish.
If that was not enough, the Jets have struggled at the quarterback position for about 15 years. Then, when they make a major move to address this position by acquiring veteran QB Aaron Rodgers, he tears his Achilles just four snaps into the 2023 season.
Cleveland Browns’ NFL History
The Cleveland Browns had a lot of franchise success before the Super Bowl era. They won four NFL championships, with their last one coming in 1964. However, they have not seen much success since then. The Browns have never even made a Super Bowl appearance in this era.
Do you know what makes this worse? The original franchise moved to Baltimore to become the Baltimore Ravens in 1996. They ended up winning their first Super Bowl in just their fifth season in Baltimore.
While Cleveland was awarded an expansion franchise just a few years later, the Browns did have to start from scratch. Now, the Ravens and Browns are division rivals, with the Ravens having seen much more success in that timespan.
