Steelers won't be able to blame the weather if things go south against Eagles

From monsoon conditions and rain delays to white-out blizzards, the Pittsburgh Steelers have dealt with their share of weather conditions during the 2024 season. Ironically, two of their three losses on the season (home against Dallas and at Cleveland) have come under treacherous weather conditions.

This week against a formidable Philadelphia Eagles team, the Steelers won't be able to use the weather as an excuse.

You never know what to expect from the weather in Pennsylvania in mid-December, but it's typically safe to assume it will be cold and often accompanied by swirling winter winds. Such is life when you play in an open stadium in the north this time of year.

Fortunately, the Steelers and Eagles won't have to face unbearable conditions this Week.

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be playing in Philadelphia at 4:25 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday, December 15. On this date in history, Philly has experienced temperatures as low as 15 degrees with an average temperature of 38 degrees. But these teams won't have to bundle up in Week 15.

According to AccuWeather.com, it will be 43 degrees and overcast on Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia with 0.00 inches of rain expected and only a 13 percent chance of precipitation. To make the playing conditions even more pleasant, there will be just seven mile-per-hour east-northeast winds.

Into the evening, temperatures will drop to 38 degrees with a chance of a few pop-up showers, but the wind dies down even further to just six miles per hour.

All things considered, the Steelers couldn't ask for much better playing conditions this week. However, this also means that Pittsburgh won't have the weather to lean on as an excuse if things go south quickly.

The Steelers will be playing without top wide receiver George Pickens in a city they haven't won a game since 1965. Meanwhile, the Eagles are on a nine-game winning streak and rank third behind only the Lions and Bills in point differential this season.

To counteract the absence of Pickens this week, the Steelers could lean on a heavy dose of the rushing attack, highlighted by Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren. With the Eagles' passing game struggling as of late, Pittsburgh's ability to play ball-control offense will be key in this contest.

Facing a daunting uncommon NFC opponent would be a hard contest for Pittsburgh to pull off under any weather conditions. Let's hope the encouraging forecast favors the Steelers this week.
