The Pittsburgh Steelers have a big choice to make at quarterback. Of course, they have Russell Wilson and Justin Fields as potential options. Both quarterbacks played in 2024 for the Steelers, but neither did enough to truly cement themselves as the obvious choice. Many Steelers fans believe Fields is the clear answer since he's younger, cheaper, and has much more upside.

One quarterback is expected back in 2025, but not both, and fans are eager to find out who it will be. The rumor mill has already been running rampant, and that will continue until Pittsburgh makes its direction clear. One Steelers insider believes Steeler Nation could know Pittsburgh's quarterback decision by the end of the first week of March.
On Tuesday morning, Andrew Fillipponi revealed that one of his sources believes the Steelers might have legitimate interest in former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones. Fillipponi didn't reveal his source but he did give the direct quote revealing exactly what he was told.
While Jones has struggled with injuries and inconsistent play, some believe he could be a strong fit in Arthur Smith’s offense. His mobility and experience as a starter align with what Head Coach Mike Tomlin typically values in a quarterback, which could make him an intriguing option if the Steelers decide to move on from both Wilson and Fields.

There’s also the possibility that the Steelers could bring in Jones while keeping Fields, which might not be a terrible idea. After all, Jones was once a first-round pick, and the Steelers may want to take a chance on him as a backup. However, it does have a familiar feel, reminiscent of when the Steelers signed Mitch Trubisky—though that experiment didn’t work out. Still, Pittsburgh remains committed to leaving no stone unturned in their quarterback search.
Jones was released by the Giants during the 2024 season after they went all-in on him, but things didn’t work out as they had hoped. Struggling with injuries and failing to become the quarterback they expected, Jones' tenure in New York came to an end. He finished the 2024 season with the Minnesota Vikings, but is now a free agent, looking for a new opportunity.
If Pittsburgh is seriously considering Jones, it adds even more layers to their already complex quarterback situation. His arrival could signal a shift in the team’s approach—perhaps as a bridge quarterback, or maybe as someone the Steelers believe can be a long-term solution. If Jones is indeed on their radar, it certainly would cause massive debate amongst the fan base.
Steelers Never Tried To Trade For Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence
Just a few days ago, a report from Ryan Burr claimed that the Steelers had contacted the Jacksonville Jaguars about acquiring quarterback Trevor Lawrence. However, that report was quickly debunked, as it turned out the Steelers never actually reached out about a potential blockbuster trade for Lawrence.
While that story was intriguing, it’s a perfect example of the type of speculation that runs rampant during the offseason. These kinds of stories are inevitable this time of year, but the new report from Fillipponi’s source about the Steelers’ interest in Jones could bring more clarity as time goes on. It will be interesting to see how this develops and what further information comes to light regarding Pittsburgh’s level of interest in Jones.

The situation continues to evolve, and the speculation will only grow stronger as the offseason progresses. Fans of the Steelers are watching closely, eager for clarity on which direction the team will take and who will ultimately be under center in 2025. With so many moving parts, the quarterback decision is set to dominate headlines until Pittsburgh makes their final choice.
