Southern Hospitality’s Emmy Sharrett and Will Kulp Are Engaged — Everything We Know

Southern Hospitality stars Emmy Sharrett and Will Kulp are engaged! Will popped the question to Emmy after nearly four years of dating. Their relationship has been a major part of the Southern Charm spin-off since Season 1.

This engagement comes after an especially rough season for the couple. Season 3 began with the revelation that Will badmouthed Emmy at several Charleston establishments. He admitted to it, but insisted he was just venting. Will was also criticized for not comforting Emmy during her meltdown at work. Then, to top it all off, another cheating rumor about Will spread for the second season in a row. The cast attempted to confront Will and Emmy at the finale party, but the couple stormed off.

Will ultimately skipped out on the reunion, and may or may not have quit the show. But when Emmy presumably returns for Southern Hospitality Season 4, it’ll be as an engaged woman. We have all the details on the engagement, including how their Southern Hospitality co-stars reacted, below.

How Southern Hospitality’s Will Kulp proposed to Emmy Sharrett

After they got engaged, Emmy and Will spilled all the details to People Magazine. Will proposed on Monday May 5 while on vacation in Saint Tropez. The two were vacationing in the South of France as part of Will’s break from law school.

Recalling the “beautiful” proposal, Emmy said, “Will had a whole speech prepared and struggled to get through it before he just started crying, which of course sent me into tears.” The Republic server continued, “All I remember him saying is ‘you’re my best friend, I love you so much.’ ” Will proposed with a ring he designed in collaboration with Emmy’s mom, who is a jeweler. Emmy has always gushed over how much her family loves Will.

The law student also made sure to hire a photographer, Elia Kahn. The photographer secretly captured the moment Will proposed to Emmy from afar. To keep it a surprise, he told Emmy he wanted to take photos of her on the beach at sunset after dinner. “In reality,” Emmy shared, “he had spent a while during his law school exams organizing a photographer with the hotel.”

Overall, both Will and Emmy gushed that it was perfect. Emmy said she “wouldn’t change a thing.” Will added, “After countless hours of planning, I couldn’t be happier with how our engagement turned out.” He said he wanted it to be perfect because Emmy is “the most important person.” He also called her “my rock and my cheerleader for the past 4 years.”

While both claim that Will surprised her with the proposal, Emmy admitted she had an inkling something was up. “I had a hunch it was going to happen,” Emmy told People, “because Will had been acting funny all day and he was abnormally concerned about our outfits.”

However, Southern Hospitality fans questioned how surprised Emmy could really be. Bravo fans saw an uncanny similarity to another beachside proposal. In the Instagram post comments section, numerous people compared it to Summer House stars Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke’s engagement, which also earned a feature in People. Commenters quoted Paige DeSorbo, who famously questioned how someone could wear heels and a fancy dress (and in Lindsay’s case, shoulder pads) to the beach and not know they were getting proposed to. Regardless, hopefully Will and Emmy find the happily ever after that Lindsay and Carl never got.

Throughout their relationship, Will and Emmy had to deal with a lot of backlash and naysayers. Both on and off camera. But as they celebrated their engagement, Emmy and Will emphatically gushed over each other and called themselves best friends. They also revealed to People that they met when Will was Emmy’s trainer at the gym.

Emmy, who never stopped defending Will throughout the drama, told People she loves everything about her now-fiancé. Southern Hospitality’s breakout star shared, “I love the way he loves, I love how he thinks, I love his intelligence, his family. I love how hardworking and determined he is. I love that we have the same birthday, I love the way he says my name and I love waking up next to him.” She added, “I love that we get to spend the rest of our lives together.”

Will had plenty of good things to say about Emmy as well. He said she “carried me through the challenges of law school.” Will continued, “She is my best friend and the love of my life. She has shown me how to see the world in new ways.” He also said Emmy taught him “about being joyful, optimistic, and kind.” Will added that he loves Emmy’s “childish wonder” and “sense of humor” as well as “her eye for a good meal and her desire for adventure.” He continued, “I love the way she loves me. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with her.”

How did Emmy and Will’s Southern Hospitality co-stars react to their engagement?

After an especially tough season, Will and Emmy aren’t on the best terms with all of their Southern Hospitality castmates. But they are still on good terms with The Republic’s other main couple, Maddi Reese and Joe Bradley. After news broke of Will and Emmy’s engagement, Maddi shared a congratulatory Instagram story. She posted a FaceTime with Emmy showing off her engagement ring. Maddi wrote, “ahhh so happy for my girl,” tagging Emmy. The DJ added, “Congrats! Sending all my love.”

However, not all of Emmy’s co-stars were as happy for her as Maddi. Instead, some reacted in ways that could only be described as shady. On the Queens of Bravo Instagram post about Will and Emmy’s engagement, TJ Dinch commented, “El o l.”

This less-than-enthusiastic reaction isn’t surprising considering how things went down in Season 3. TJ was close friends with Emmy and Will. But he felt caught in the middle after hearing Emmy plan her future with Will while also knowing what Will said behind her back. After confronting Emmy about it, she sided with Will and cut TJ off. Along with Bradley Carter, TJ tried confronting Emmy with stories about Will’s alleged other woman at the finale party. At the reunion, TJ and Brad tried to emphasize how much they cared about Emmy. But it didn’t patch things up. TJ’s shady comment certainly won’t help. Hopefully, Southern Hospitality fans will get to see more of TJ’s reaction to Emmy’s engagement on Season 4.
