Sneaky Giants Addition is Already Paying Off for New York

The New York Giants are in the midst of training camp, and all eyes are on this team. Of course, one major area of attention for the Giants is their quarterback room, which features veteran quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, rookie Jaxson Dart and returning signal-caller Tommy DeVito. But, the quarterbacks aren’t the only players getting attention at camp this year.

There’s one Giants rookie who has been in the spotlight already at training camp, and it’s a breath of fresh air for the team. The Giants will need all the help they can get this season to recover from their 3-14 run for 2024-25.

The rookie getting attention is Cam Skattebo. The Giants drafted Skattebo with the 105th pick in the 2025 NFL draft. At the time, it was considered a good move, but Skattebo is turning into a dream running back for the Giants, and that wasn’t exactly expected.

Giants Rookie is Looking Solid

Just three days into camp, Skattebo is looking so solid. He’s even better than people expected him to be and could really give the veteran quarterbacks on the squad a run for their money.

“Skatt was able to show off his shiftiness and burst at practice Friday morning,” Matt Sidney of GmenHQ notes in a story published on Saturday, July 26. “On a handoff from Jaxson Dart, he immediately got the legs churning as he made his cut to the outside. He then showed off a bit of a surprising burst to outrun the defenders to the sideline.”

Sidney adds that, “Everything he’s shown, said, and done so far screams immediate-impact player. But it’s really his ability to catch passes out of the backfield and be a true three-down player that made him such a draft-day steal.”

So, it appears that Skattebo was worth the signing and “draft-day steal,” as Sidney says. At 23 years old, he’s a bit older than many of the rookies, but what’s a few years? Props for Brian Daboll and company for snagging this player when other NFL teams overlooked him.

Looking at Another New York Giants Rookie

Another rookie, Dart, is also getting attention at camp. While Wilson will be the team’s starter heading into the season, many believer the future of the Giants is with Dart.

“Dart was the third quarterback in Ole Miss history to be taken in the first round. Giants fans may have heard of the other two, Eli and Archie Manning,” Dan Salomone of the Giants’ website states in a piece published in May. “Dart served as a counselor at the Manning Passing Academy and went on to break Eli’s program record for career passing yards, finishing with 10,617 to eclipse the two-time Super Bowl MVP’s 10,119 in college.”

They add that, “Dart also owns Ole Miss records in wins (28) and winning percentage (.737) by a starting quarterback.”

While Dart is prepping for the future, it’s likely a good move to start with Wilson, who has been to two Super Bowls in his career, including Super Bowl XLVIII and Super Bowl XLIX, and won Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014 with the Seattle Seahawks. Wilson has the experience, and hopefully he’ll help turn this Big Apple franchise around.
