Seattle Seahawks urged to kick the tires on $30 million veteran NFL free agent lineman

If the Seattle Seahawks have one major roster need heading into the stretch run it's guard. If they have two, then the other guard spot has to be included, as well. It's become painfully clear that Seattle's front office has undervalued this position, which is why they currently have the NFL's worst starting guard combination.

All season long veteran Laken Tomlinson has struggled at left guard, while Anthony Bradford has bombed at right guard. Now that Bradford has been placed on the injured reserve list we'll get to see rookies Christian Haynes and Sataoa Laumea struggle instead for a change.

Seahawks vs. Jets preview Week 13

Here's everything you need to know when the Seattle Seahawks play the New York Jets Week 13 of the 2024 NFL season.

If the Seahawks are going to make a playoff run this year they'll probably need to radically upgrade at least one of those guard spots in order to stop the bleeding in pass protection. One analyst at Bleacher Report believes they should at least kick the tires on free agent guard Nate Daivs, who was released by the Chicago Bears two weeks ago.

B/R on Nate Davis-Seahawks

"The Seahawks could still use help at guard, which is why examining Nate Davis would make sense. The 28-year-old former starting guard was released by the Bears earlier this month after plummeting down the depth chart. While Davis' tenure in Chicago wasn't encouraging, he was a dependable starter in Tennessee over the first four years of his career. The Seahawks would have nothing to lose by bringing him in for a workout."

It didn't work out with Davis and the Bears, but you can hardly blame the players when that happens - as Chicago is currently working on ruining its 500th potential franchise quarterback in a row. Davis was highly-regarded coming out of Charlotte and was promising enough early in his NFL career to earn a three-year, $30 million contract with the Bears last March.

The Seahawks wouldn't have to pay Davis nearly that much to bring him in - and it's practically impossible to envision him playing any worse than what they have gotten from their right guards this year. No harm could come from a phone call.
