Seattle Seahawks signed a talented undrafted free agent duo that the rest of the NFL forgot to draft

The Seattle Seahawks put together a fairly strong 2025 NFL Draft class. General manager John Schneider invested heavily into the offensive line, drafting three players there. Then added critical playmakers to fit new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak's scheme and an elite safety prospect in Nick Emmanwori. But he wasn't done there.

After already posting that strong draft, John Schneider then immediately turned around and signed a talented undrafted free agent duo that the rest of the NFL apparently forgot to draft. Zy Alexander (DB, LSU) and Jared Ivey (EDGE, Ole Miss).

Zy Alexander, DB LSU

It was clear that John Schneider wanted to keep taking swings on defense with the Seahawks undrafted free agent group as 11 of the 16 signings (as of this writing) were on that side of the ball. However, only two of them were defensive backs–one of them being Zy Alexander.

Alexander was a consensus fifth round prospect heading into the NFL Draft so it was a bit bizarre that he was available when things wrapped up on Saturday. Alexander was fresh off a career year where he defended half a dozen passes and allowed a passer rating of just 53 when targeted (elite for safety prospects).

Alexander was especially–and somewhat surprisingly–dominant in his game against Ole Miss last year as he faced off against 2025 NFL Draft first round quarterback Jaxson Dart. He allowed just 27 total yards on ten targets and picked off a deep shot down field.

The Seahawks secondary is already a pretty strong unit, but Zy Alexander gives the team much needed depth at perimeter corner. Alexander could also flex to safety if need be, as was discussed throughout the NFL Draft process with him (and among NFL scouting circles).

Jared Ivey, EDGE Ole Miss

Jared Ivey going undrafted was a completely absurd oversight by the rest of the NFL. He was a consensus early round four prospect heading into the 2025 NFL Draft despite his lackluster athletic showing in the pre-draft process.

At 6'6", 274 pounds, Ivey brings incredible length, strength, and a ferocious pass rush. He just racked up back to back seasons with eight sacks for the Ole Miss Rebels, yet somehow got entirely overlooked in the draft.

Ivey didn't get as much attention compared to his astonishingly talented teammates in Walter Nolen (first round pick) and Princely Umanmielen (third round pick), but he was still an important part of Ole Miss' number one pass rush in all of college football last season.

The Seahawks should have decent pass rushing depth along the true "edge" to their defense, but what Jared Ivey provides is a player who can hop onto the field in any number of roles when necessary. He played a ton of true edge, stand-up outside linebacker some, but also shifted over and inside of the offensive tackles a significant amount back in 2022 and 2023. Ivey's schematic versatility likely earns him some sort of a year one role.
