Raiders insider addresses team’s interest in trading for All-Pro defender

The Las Vegas Raiders made significant improvements to their offense during the offseason, putting it in a position to be one of the best in the AFC next season. With lingering questions about this Raiders’ defense, it appears one potential upgrade isn’t being considered.

According to Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Raiders’ front office is not considering a trade for Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

  • Jalen Ramsey stats 2024: 2 interceptions, 62% completion rate allowed, 83.2 QB rating allowed, 6.5 yards per target allowed

Miami is expected to move the All-Pro defensive back this summer, with both sides agreeing earlier this offseason that a split is necessary. However, the timeline for a trade has been uncertain. No deal was expected until after June 1, when the post-June 1 trade would allow the Dolphins to spread out the dead cap charges over the next two seasons.

While it’s now past the key date, negotiations are slow-moving. Miami has largely been unwilling to cover any significant portion of Ramsey’s contract, which carries $24.235 million in guaranteed salary this year. So, while a trade is inevitable, there are no signs Ramsey is going to be moved before training camp.

  • Jalen Ramsey contract (Spotrac): $16.661 million cap hit in 2025

The Raiders’ lack of interest in Ramsey is another sign that the team intends to roll with Darien Porter and Eric Stokes as its starting cornerbacks this season. With defensive tackle Christian Wilkins also facing an uncertain timeline for a return, the concerns with the Raiders’ defense in 2025 aren’t going away.
