Seattle Seahawks re-sign surprisingly efficient player Josh Jobe

Josh Jobe is unfortunately the latest in the line of Seattle Seahawks cornerbacks who has proven to surprisingly be better than Tre Brown. Brown has been given multiple chances to start with Seattle, and he has failed each time. The first player who succeeded him was Mike Jackson, but he left after he was released in the final roster cuts last season. Jobe's success might be more surprising.

No matter, on Thursday, Seattle announced that it had re-signed Jobe. There was no immediate announcement of how much Jobe was returning for, but the contract should not be expected to be expensive. The cornerback has had an odd career so far. He went undrafted out of Alabama in 2022, and he went from practice squad to starter for the Seahawks this past season.

There was not going to be a team that was going to overpay for Jobe, and maybe he is simply a good fit in head coach Mike Macdonald's defensive system. He started six of Seattle's last 10 games. He allowed a solid 82.8 passer rating when targeted in 2024.

The cornerback also allowed just one touchdown pass, but broke up five and had an interception. Even better, he missed only 9.3 percent of his tackle attempts, including missing only one in the last five games of the season.

Prior to joining Seattle last year, Jobe was part of the Philadelphia Eagles organization for two years. He appeared on nearly twice as many snaps with the Seahawks in 2024 than he had in his career to that point. He made the most of his chance to play, something Macdonald loves to see, and this made him an easy decision to re-sign this offseason for Seattle.

Jobe should be expected to battle for a starting spot in 2025 as well. Maybe Seattle takes a cornerback early in the 2025 NFL draft, but that is not the current expectation. When Seattle has three cornerbacks on the field, Jobe is likely to be one of them.
