Lynch is teaming up with California Governor Gavin Newsom and agent Doug Hendrickson for a new podcast. The weekly podcast, called “Politickin’,” will come out on IHeartPodcasts.

Hendrickson represented Lynch since 2007, which was Lynch’s rookie year in the NFL. Hendrickson and Newsom have a friendship that goes back more than two decades, which is what brings the unlikely trio together.

The official description from iHeart.com explains the collaboration as unlikely.

An unexpected collaboration. California Governor Gavin Newsom, Super Bowl Champion Marshawn “Beast Mode” Lynch, and their friend and agent Doug Hendrickson are Politickin’. Gavin Newsom like you’ve never heard him and Marshawn Lynch exactly how you’d expect him. Join them for Politickin’ each week for the conversations that need to be had.

A podcast with liberal California Governor Gavin Newsom will not be Lynch’s first foray into politics. According to an article from The Hill, Lynch spoke out on former president Donald Trump on Real Time with Bill Maher in 2019.

“That motherf—er say a lot of shit,” Lynch told host Maher during the program.

“But at the end of the day,” Lynch continued, “you call me unpatriotic but you come to the neighborhood where I’m from and you’ll see me take the shirt off my back and give it to someone in less need, what would you call that?”

Trump attacked Lynch via social media in 2017 when Lynch decided to protest during the American national anthem, yet stand for the Mexican national anthem.

“Great disrespect!” Trump wrote. “Next time NFL should suspend him for remainder of season. Attendance and ratings way down.”

Lynch’s protest and outspoken address of Trump did not mark the last time he would speak openly about his political ideations. Lynch expressed disappointment with the gentrification of his hometown, Oakland, Calif.

“I’ve been a witness of it since I was a small jitterbug,” Lynch said. “Now that I’ve grown up and I’m seeing it and I understand it a little more.”

Lynch was one of the best running backs in the NFL during his prime, but it was his antics on and off the field that made him must-watch T.V.

Lynch was a five-time Pro Bowl selection with a first-team All-Pro and second-team All-Pro selection as well. Lynch ripped off four consecutive seasons with over 1,200 yards rushing from 2011 to 2014 to solidify himself as a top running back in the NFL.

Before that, Lynch was already known for his antics in college. Lynch famously took a joyride on a trainer’s cart.

Lynch then became even more famous for his famous anti-media actions during a Seahawks Super Bowl run. He famously responded to every question from the media with “I’m just here so I won’t get fined.” The NFL fined Lynch after he refused to answer questions from the media in weeks prior.

Lynch was also fined by the NFL for his iconic “crotch grab.” the move was made famous during the most iconic play of his career, the “BeastQuake” run. He repeated the move with during a touchdown run against the Arizona Cardinals and was fined.

Lynch, who was famous for being difficult with the media and staying silent, will now be taking his talents to a format that is entirely based on talking. The podcast has been in the works for about six months.
