The Seattle Seahawks may have a surplus to requirements in the wide receiver position. DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett are expected to be the team’s two primary options out wide, which means that some players on the depth chart might struggle to find meaningful minutes this coming season.
This could be the case for incoming fourth-year wideout Dee Eskridge, who could just find himself on the outside looking in as the new season approaches.
Seattle Seahawks Urged to Trade Dee Eskridge
Matt Holder of Bleacher Report recently curated a comprehensive list of compelling items each team must address heading into the new season. According to the NFL analyst, one of the top items on Seattle’s agenda should be to consider cashing in on Eskridge now while they still can:
“Three years ago, Eskridge was the talk of the Senior Bowl as he put on a strong performance that led to the Seahawks using a second-round pick on him. However, he’s struggled to stay healthy and hasn’t gotten much playing time in the Emerald City.
“The latter likely won’t change with DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Jaxon Smith-Njigba in front of the Western Michigan product. Seattle should see what it can get for the wideout, especially since he’s entering a contract year, and allow him an opportunity to have a bigger role elsewhere,” Holder wrote.
Eskridge isn’t going to net the Seahawks a massive haul, but they could get one or two useful assets in exchange for the former second-round pick. For his part, a fresh start elsewhere could be what Eskridge needs to revitalize his career — one that could be destined for mediocrity if he remains in Seattle.
