Seahawks claim former Chargers safety off of waivers

Seattle has claimed AJ Finley, the former Ole Miss and Los Angeles Chargers’ safety

Another week, another shakeup to the Seattle Seahawks 53-man roster.

Tuesday’s transaction write confirmed that Seattle claimed safety AJ Finley off of waivers from the Los Angeles Chargers.

Who is new Seattle Seahawks safety AJ Finley?

Finley played all four of his college seasons at Ole Miss, primarily playing at safety. In his four years, Finley recorded 244 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and a touchdown. Finley had his breakout season his junior year (2021) and was named to the AP All-SEC second team as he helped lead Ole Miss to the Sugar Bowl that season. After another strong senior season (2022), Finley declared for the 2023 NFL Draft but went undrafted.

What has AJ Finley done in the NFL prior to joining the Seahawks?

Shortly after the 2023 draft, Finley signed with the Los Angeles Chargers. Finley made the Chargers initial 53-man roster before being waived later on September 23. Finley was signed to the Chargers practice squad the next day and promoted back to the active roster on September 30. Finley would go on to play the rest of the 2023 season for the Chargers, and the beginning of the 2024 season before the Chargers waived him earlier this week. Since 2023, Finley has recorded 13 tackles, and one forced fumble. He’s played 370 special teams snaps to just 69 defensive snaps.

Who was removed from the Seahawks roster to make from for AJ Finley?

Defensive lineman Myles Adams was waived to make room on the 53-man roster.

Adams went undrafted in 2020 out of Rice before signing with the Carolina Panthers. Adams was on the Panthers practice squad in 2020 before getting waived and later signed by the Seahawks to their practice squad. Since 2020 Adams has been on and off the Seahawks practice squad and active roster. In his career, Adams has 30 tackles, and one sack which came in 2023.
