Former Alabama football strength and conditioning coach Scott Cochran continues to stock his West Alabama staff with former Crimson Tide stars. Reggie Ragland became the latest former UA player to take a job with the Tigers, as director of player personnel, UWA announced on Wednesday.
“Reggie Ragland is a proven leader with a championship mentality, and we couldn’t be more excited to have him join the UWA family as our Director of Player Personnel,” Cochran said in a news release. “As a Super Bowl champion and former SEC Defensive Player of the Year, he knows exactly what it takes to compete and win at the highest levels.”
After a year out of coaching, Cochran took over the Division II Tigers this offseason. It’s his first head coach job, after he helped build national championship programs as a strength coach and special teams coordinator at LSU, Alabama and Georgia.
Ragland won two national championships in 2012 and 2015, bookending his career in Tuscaloosa. The linebacker then went on to an NFL career from 2016-22, winning a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs.
“Reggie’s experience, passion for the game, and ability to connect with young athletes will be instrumental in recruiting top talent to our program,” Cochran said in the release. “We know he will make an immediate impact in shaping the future of UWA Football.”
Ragland became the sixth former Alabama player to join Cochran’s staff in Livingston. He’ll join the likes of Blake Sims, OJ Howard, Bo Scarbrough and more.
Along with Sims and Howard, Ragland is scheduled to begin his West Alabama employment on April 1.
