Saquon Barkley makes NFL history in debut with Eagles

New York Giants fans, look away. Former Big Blue running back Saquon Barkley dashed into the NFL history books Friday night in his debut with Philadelphia.

The 27-year-old tallied 132 total yards and three touchdowns in Philadelphia's 34-29 season-opening win against the Green Bay Packers in Sao Paolo, Brazil.

Barkley became the first running back in NFL history to score three times in his debut for a new team and the first since Detroit's Dutch Clark in 1934 to record multiple scores, according to Statmuse.

On top of that, Barkley is now the only player in league history to record multiple rushing touchdowns and a receiving score in his debut for a team.

The hat trick of touchdowns matched his career high in a game when he did it for New York in 2018 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Barkley also became the second Eagles player all-time to score thrice in his Philadelphia debut after wide receiver Terrell Owens did it in 2004.

The history-making night didn't end there either.

Barkley's first two scores in the first half of the game, combined with Green Bay wide receiver Jordan Reed's two touchdowns marked the first time in NFL history two players both scored rushing and receiving touchdowns in a single half, per NBC Sports.

New York infamously let Barkley walk in free agency earlier this year, and he signed a three-year deal with the division rival Eagles valued at $37.75 million.

Barring any injuries to Barkley, New York fans will probably want to avoid their televisions the two weeks when the Giants face Philadelphia for the first time this year.
