Saints QB Derek Carr comments on potentially reuniting with WR Davante Adams

Why wouldn't New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr welcome a reunion with Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams?

On Wednesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the New York Jets and Saints are among Adams' preferred trade destinations. Adams played with Jets starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers for eight seasons (2014-21) in Green Bay. However, Carr was his college teammate at Fresno State, and they played together in Vegas in 2022.

During his Thursday news conference, Carr said he and Adams remain close and addressed the trade rumors.

"I think all 32 quarterbacks would love to play with Davante," Carr said. "We would welcome that. I don't know if I'd get in trouble for saying that. I think it's just that everyone kind of knows that."

When he was with Rodgers in Green Bay, Adams recorded 669 receptions for 8,121 receiving yards and 73 touchdown catches in 116 regular-season games, making five Pro Bowls.

He still produced elite numbers in his lone season with Carr. In 2022, Adams logged 100 receptions for 1,516 yards and 14 receiving TDs, earning his third first-team All-Pro nod. However, the Raiders went 6-11 and Carr was benched for the season's final two games.

"So, we didn't win as many games as we thought, but it wasn't all bad," Carr said. "The narrative that it didn't work out is correct because we didn't win as many games. But when it comes to getting him the ball and him scoring a lot of touchdowns, I think it went pretty good."

While the four-time MVP Rodgers has a better resume than Carr, his age (40) raises concerns about his durability. He also suffered a season-ending Achilles tear last season, which is probably affecting his mobility.

New Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak seems like a better coach than Jets OC Nathaniel Hackett. New Orleans (2-2) leads the league in points scored (31.8) while New York (2-2) is 21st (19.0 PPG).

Clearly, New Orleans holds some advantages over New York and could be a more attractive landing spot for Adams.

If the Saints can make a trade happen, they should. Acquiring Adams would make Carr happy and could take their high-scoring offense to the next level.
