Russell Wilson's Giants Future Takes a Shocking Turn: Bold Prediction Stuns NFL Fans Everywhere

The New York Giants have hope going into this season, which is a good thing, because they’re coming off a very difficult season. For the 2024-25 season, the Giants had a 3-14 record and sat at the bottom of the NFC East. Now, the team has a new roster of players, especially in the quarterback room, although with the same head coach, Brian Daboll.

Russell Wilson of the New York Giants

The only quarterback returning to the Giants is Tommy DeVito, and he joins veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, another veteran in Jameis Winston and a rookie in Jaxson Dart. Even though Wilson is new to the Giants, he’s far from new to football and has been to two Super Bowls in his career, including Super Bowl XLVIII and Super Bowl XLIX, and winning Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014 during his time with the Seattle Seahawks.

Now, one NFL analyst has an interesting prediction for Wilson. Some will think it totally makes sense, while other will certainly question his reasoning.

Giants QB Russell Wilson and Retirement

In a June 24 feature for CBS Sports, Tyler Sullivan rattles off 10 NFL players who he believes could be entering their final year. In the feature, he talks about Aaron Rodgers already saying this will likely be his final year, adding, “While our collective jaws got nowhere near close to the floor upon hearing this news from Rodgers, he may not be the only one looking at the 2025 season as his final go around, and some who do decide to call it a career after this year could surprise us.”

For Wilson, he notes that the player is on his third team, only on a one-year deal with the New York Giants “after a quick one-season stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers.” From there, Sullivan says that Wilson “shouldn’t be looking at any long-term housing options in the New York area with the team drafting Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.”

“So, Wilson, who will turn 37 during the 2025 season, will likely be looking for a new team yet again next offseason as Dart ascends to QB1 sooner rather than later,” he continues. “Does Wilson want to do that again? Moreover, will a team want Russell Wilson?”

Don’t Underestimate Russell Wilson

Sullivan goes on to say that Wilson “was a backup option for the Giants after a failed pursuit of Matthew Stafford earlier this offseason. Even the Steelers opted to wait months for Aaron Rodgers rather than simply bring Wilson back into the fold. So, a retirement decision could be made for Wilson as a starting job may not be available to him, and it’s hard to see him accepting a full-time backup role anywhere.”

It’s a good question, but Sullivan is underestimating the drive and love for the sport that Wilson possesses. He’s not in his 40s yet, and a guy like Rodgers still had offers in his 40s, so it’s not out of the question, at all, that Wilson could stay with the Giants or move onto a different team. Plus, Dart might not be ready to be the franchise quarterback by the 2026-27 season. So, yes while it’s inevitable that Wilson, one day, will retire, it doesn’t have to be after the next season.
