Roquan Smith Says 1 Ravens Player Is Going To ‘Surprise A Lot Of People’

The Baltimore Ravens have a lot of quality players on both sides of the football.

It is why they have been able to win 10+ games in five of the last six seasons.

But one young player that is gaining steam this offseason is linebacker Trenton Simpson, who is heading into his second NFL season.

Roquan Smith #18 of the Baltimore Ravens celebrates after a play against the Atlanta Falcons during the first half of the game at M&T Bank Stadium on December 24, 2022 in Baltimore, Maryland.

“I think he’s going to surprise a lot of people…He learns from his mistakes,” All-Pro linebacker Roquan Smith recently told the Baltimore media.

In 15 games played as a rookie in 2023, Simpson recorded just 13 tackles and a single sack.

Of course, when Roquan Smith and Patrick Queen are the two starters at inside linebacker, it will be difficult to get any playing time.

But with Queen leaving Baltimore for the arch-rival Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason, that has opened up a spot alongside Smith in the middle of the defense.

This is where the former All-ACC performer can come in and have the opportunity to make plays.

Simpson was drafted in the third round last offseason by Baltimore at pick No. 86 overall.

This is a franchise that has a rich history of great defensive play and great linebacker play, especially.

If Simpson can make the step up from special teams contributor and backup to full-time starter, Ravens fans could forget about Patrick Queen.

Then again, that will be a tall task.

After all, Queen did put up 133 total tackles en route to his first All-Pro nod last year.

Time will tell to see if Simpson has what it takes to become a great player with Smith at his side.
