The Kansas City Chiefs have been doing Kansas City Chiefs things this year, winning every game on their schedule and squeaking out victories in thrilling fashion.
They are 9-0 through the first 10 weeks, led by future Hall of Fame quarterback Patrick Mahomes and a defense that is doing well to shut down everyone in their path. The Chiefs will face one of their toughest tests of the season on Sunday afternoon against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills, but that isn't the team that they should be worried about.
At least, not according to ESPN NFL analyst Rex Ryan.
According to Ryan, it's the Cincinnati Bengals - who are currently 4-6 - that Kansas City should least want to see.
"They don't want to see Joe Burrow," Ryan said on ESPN's NFL Countdown. "I can assure you the Chiefs don't want to see Joe Burrow."
While Cincinnati's offense may be incredibly dangerous with Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase leading the way, their defense is a different story. They are one of the worst units in the league, giving up 26.2 points per game and allowing almost 350 yards per game to opposing offenses.
That sounds like something that Patrick Mahomes would like to take advantage of.
At this point, though, it's unclear if we are ever going to see this matchup that the Chiefs are supposed to be so afraid of. While Kansas City holds onto the No. 1 seed in the AFC, the Bengals are currently on the outside of the playoff picture, looking in.
With games against the Los Angeles Chargers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennesseee Titans, Dallas Cowboys, and Cleveland Browns over the next five weeks, Cincinnati is going to need to make a run in order to get back into the playoff picture.
If they can win four of those next five games and improve to 8-7 by the time Christmas rolls around, then maybe we can start to take this potential "dangerous" matchup seriously. Until then, though, the Chiefs likely aren't losing any sleep at night thinking about the Bengals.
