The Seattle Seahawks just missed the postseason last season but still decided to make some significant changes on the offensive side of the ball with a new coordinator, new quarterback, and new wide receiver.
Unfortunately for Seattle, one concerning prediction doesn’t see these changes having a positive impact for the Seahawks in 2025.
Seahawks Predicted to Finish Last in NFC West for 2025 NFL Season
Bleacher Report’ Moe Moton dropped a concerning prediction about the Seahawks entering the season on Monday, forecasting that Seattle will plummet all the way to bottom of the NFC West in 2025.
Moton wrote, “In 2024, the Seattle Seahawks won 10 games and still missed the playoffs, and then they made significant changes to their offense. They fired offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb and traded quarterback Geno Smith, per his request, and wideout DK Metcalf. Darnold must prove his 2024 Pro Bowl year with the Vikings wasn’t a fluke and his journeyman years are behind him. Meanwhile, Kupp has to stay healthy. He’s missed 18 games over the last two years, at least five in each of the previous three seasons.”
The decision to part ways with proven performers like DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Geno Smith always comes with a bit of risk.
If Sam Darnold revents back to his pre-Minnesota Vikings form and Cooper Kupp’s production continues to decline, then Macdonald and general manager John Schneider will likely be held responsible in some capacity for making moves that didn’t improve the organization after a 10-win campaign.
Would a Last Place Finish in the NFC West Put Mike Macdonald on the Hot Seat?
Projecting Seattle to finish dead last in the NFC West could have a big ripple effect for the franchise entering the 2026 NFL season, which could even put head coach Mike Macdonald on the hot seat.
Moton said about the Seattle head coach, “The Seahawks replaced Grubb with Klint Kubiak, who should be an upgrade, considering head coach Mike Macdonald wants to run the ball effectively. Kubiak likely learned the intricacies of developing a productive ground game from his father, Gary. Macdonald, an accomplished defensive play-caller, should be able to field a top-10 scoring and total defense with All-Pro/Pro Bowl players and budding talent on all three levels of the unit. Yet he may not be satisfied with his offense in consecutive terms.”
Macdonald winning 10 games in his first year as a head coach in the NFL has likely earned him some runway with the organization while they attempt to retool on the offensive side of the football, but finishing dead last in the division is always a way to get yourself in hot water with the franchise.
The changes on the offensive side of the ball make that group a bit of an unknown entering the season, but the defense should continue to improve while being molded in the image of Macdonald’s scheme in 2025.
The interior of the offensive line was a weakness from last season that was addressed in the 2025 NFL Draft when they selected North Dakota State OL Grey Zabel at No. 18 overall.
Predicting the Seahawks to finish dead last in the division is bold. Darnold would have to be a big disappointment and the defense would have to regress in order for that prediction to become a reality.
Ultimately, the additions on offense and how they fit into Klint Kubiak’s scheme will ultimately determine the fate of the Seahawks in 2025.
