According to 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis, the Denver Broncos are elevating veteran fullback Michael Burton and wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey off the practice squad to their game-day active roster.
This was long expected after the Broncos surprisingly released both players while trimming their roster down to 53 players. Reports quickly came out that the team planned on re-signing them to their practice squad and that’s exactly what they did. Now, the two veteran players who were both listed on the Broncos' week one depth chart are being elevated off the practice squad and onto their active game-day roster.
Burton is a veteran run-blocking specialist at fullback who will be your starter at the position for tomorrow’s week one matchup vs. the Seattle Seahawks. Head coach Sean Payton is going to want to establish the run game and having his lead blocking specialist active should be beneficial for the Broncos. He will also contribute on special teams including on kickoffs if the Seahawks decide to test Pro Bowl returner Marvin Mims Jr.
As for big Lil’Jordan Humphrey, he gives the Broncos another big target at wide receiver who produced at times last season for the team. I would not be surprised to see him out there in three-receiver sets and for Sean Payton to utilize his ability to run block as well.
Both players are core players to this roster and two players Sean Payton clearly trusts. They can be elevated off the practiced squad a total of three times so we shall see how they navigate this moving forward. For now though, both figure to be contributors for the Broncos tomorrow in their season opener vs. the Seattle Seahawks.
