Bills Trade Idea Hauls In Unhappy Receiver After Breakout Year

The Buffalo Bills could do with some more help for franchise quarterback and reigning MVP, Josh Allen.

Indeed, the team did not manage to obtain more than 850 yards from any one receiver on the roster after Stefon Diggs was traded prior to the 2024 season.

Now with 33rd overall pick, Keon Coleman, entering his second season and Khalil Shakir having another year to kick on as the team’s presumed WR1, the hope is that Allen will have more to work with on the perimeter in 2025.

But hope is a tough thing to balance a franchise who is desperately wanting to push through the bolted barrier known presently as the “Kansas City Chiefs” and finally make that elusive Super Bowl after being knocked out of the postseason by Patrick Mahomes and co. in four of the past five years.

So whilst there are the more big-name trade options, such as the Washington Commanders’ Terry McLaurin, who held out of minicamp last month, these don’t always come through. In addition, the price tags on the deals and subsequent contracts the trade-ees are signed to often border on the absurd.

Jauan Jennings Report Could Allow Buffalo To Swoop In

Instead, in this trade proposal the Bills aim a little lower – respectfully – and attempt to add San Francisco 49ers wideout, Jauan Jennings, who according to Adam Schefter, wants either a new deal or to be traded away this offseason.

49ers WR Jauan Jennings, who is scheduled to make $7.5 million this season in the final year of his deal, wants a new contract or a trade, per sources.

Although there has been an abundance of receiving talent coming out of college over the course of the past few NFL drafts, it does not feel like many top-end receiving talents are often explicitly put on the trade block, especially those still in their prime years.

How Would Jauan Jennings Fit In With The Bills

Jauan Jennings is, of course, no McLaurin, but he has certainly shone at periods over the course of his five years in the league, not least last season when he had a career year, hauling in 77 catches for 975 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Indeed, his receiving yardage total was just a little over 200 yards short of McLaurin’s total, despite playing in two fewer games than the disgruntled Commander. But it was over 150 yards higher than any of the Bills wideouts managed in 2024.

Were Jennings to be traded over to New York State, it is not immediately apparent that he would supplant Shakir as the de facto first choice pass-catcher, but he would strengthen the core of the unit alongside Shakir, Coleman and new free agent additions, Joshua Palmer and Elijah Moore.

The biggest roadblock to a deal would be Jennings’ contract, which expires at the conclusion of the 2025 season. Currently, he is playing on a two-year, $15.4 million rookie extension signed back in March 2024, but any future deal would no doubt well exceed that amount. If the Bills could come to a reasonable agreement with the 49er, this is a very feasible possibility for both sides.
