The Baltimore Ravens are coming off a disappointing season that didn't see a return trip to the AFC Championship game thanks to a 27-25 Divisional Round loss to Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills.
Baltimore upgraded the offense last season with the addition of running back Derrick Henry and would like to do something equally productive this offseason, but could be prohibited by its salary cap situation.
Christian D'Andrea of USA Today postulated that the Ravens might not be able to make any big moves this offseason because of a lack of salary cap space.
"The Ravens have the cap space to keep some of their pending free agents in-house. Maybe not Ronnie Stanley, but potentially Swiss Army Knife offensive lineman Patrick Mekari and restricted free agent safety Ar’Darius Washington thanks to about $13 million to spend," D'Andrea wrote.
Stanley is due upwards of $20 million per year in a new free-agent deal per
Spotrac, and that could be too rich for Baltimore.
"Outside of that, however, it’s tough to see them making a big splash in a flawed market," D'Andrea added. "Like the Texans, they’d benefit from a veteran wideout and some offensive line reinforcements. Otherwise, it’s difficult to justify a big outlay bringing new talent to Maryland."
It's possible general manager Eric DeCosta could have a few tricks up his sleeve, but for the most part, we shouldn't expect the Ravens to be big players in free agency.
