Rams release former Wisconsin WR and create questions to what comes next

While the 2025 training camp for the Los Angeles Rams is still in the future, the window dressing of the roster for training camp is very much in the present. There is never a day off for Rams GM Les Snead, it seems, as the team never seems to be far removed from a minor tweak to the roster. And even as the coaching staff and players gear up for training camp, roster moves are still taking place.

The Rams released wide receiver Quintez Cephus:

I cannot say that his release is unexpected. The writing was on the wall, and we shared the fact that Quintez Cephus was on the roster bubble a month ago. And now that it has taken place, there is no joy or celebration at events taking place as we had expected. A young man was just shown the door.

But for the team, that opens up a roster spot. And it behooves us to ponder how the team may choose to replenish the ranks. Of course, the initial votes cast on social media have been overwhelmingly in favor of the team pulling the trigger and trading for DB Jalen Ramsey. And that view was reignited by NFL Insider Adam Schefter, who asserted that a trade is still likely to happen before training camp, and that the teams Jalen Ramsey wants to play for are the Los Angeles Chargers or the Los Angeles Rams.

And there has been repeated confirmation by Rams HC Sean McVay to suggest that the Rams are still in negotiations, but that progress has been slow.

But this is also that time of the year when former UFL players sign on with NFL teams. And we have repeatedly named former Rams QB Bryce Perkins as a suitable signing. Why?

Well, there are always valid reasons to add talent, and Bryce Perkins ended the 2025 UFL season as the three MVPs. But the Rams continue to seek out successors to veteran Matthew Stafford, and Perkins has exhibited the passion and talent to earn the right to be included in that conversation.

But more importantly and timely, the Rams need four quarterbacks to navigate training camp and preseason. The team will not risk injury to either Stafford or veteran backup Jimmy Garoppolo, which places the entire preseason on the shoulders of QB Stetson Bennett. While Bennett can handle the workload, planning to run every preseason game through Bennett with no plans for relief seems a bit myopic for a team that sits players who seldom see much work in the regular season.

The addition of Bryce Perkins just makes far too much sense here. While the Rams can go in virtually any direction right now, the timing is ripe for a fourth quarterback. And that makes the next several days very interesting.

As always, thanks for reading.
