Rams News: Sean McVay Responds to Ernest Jones Trade Rumors: ‘He Never Asked to Leave’

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has clarified that linebacker Ernest Jones IV did not request a trade from the team. Recent reports suggested that the Rams had allowed Jones to explore trade options amid ongoing contract negotiations.

LA Rams HC Sean McVay may have clarified Ernest Jones rumors, or not

Jones himself tweeted to deny the trade request, although he later deleted the post. McVay mentioned that the team has been in contact with Jones's representatives but did not provide further details on those discussions.

While McVay acknowledged that the Rams have had some conversations with other teams regarding Jones, he emphasized that no trade discussions have progressed.

"We've had communication with his representation, and I'm gonna leave that in house for now," McVay said via the team's transcript.

He noted that these situations are part of the business of football, and the team is managing it day by day.

"These are parts of the profession, and they're not fun parts, but they are real parts that you have to acknowledge," McVay said. "Ernest is a pro in every sense of the word. And so we're just kind of dealing with it a day at a time."

Jones, who led the Rams in tackles last season and served as a team captain, is expected to play a crucial role in the defense this year, especially with star defensive tackle Aaron Donald's status uncertain due to contract issues.

"I think there's always a little bit increased urgency around the league, not exclusive to just this situation, with just the possible movement that can occur here," McVay said. "And so I'm sure the next time that I talk to you, I'll have a little bit more clarity. But we are working through those things and there's changes by the minute potentially."

As the regular season approaches, the Rams face important decisions regarding Jones's future with the team. If he were to leave, it would significantly impact the defense, which relies heavily on his contributions.
