Las Vegas Raiders fans learned quite a bit about the standoff between the team and left tackle Kolton Miller over the past few days.
Despite holding out for a contract extension and rumors of a potential trade floating around, the Raiders did not rush to grab an offensive lineman in the draft. They did select offensive tackle Charles Grant in the third round, but he is a developmental option instead of someone who can play right away. All signs pointed to the idea that Miller was still going to be a Raider in 2025, extension or not.
Days after the draft, the Raiders received another major update on the situation.
Are the Raiders closing in on a resolution with Miller?
Late Monday night, The Athletic’s Tashan Reed shared a photo from the Raiders website, showing Miller participating in phase two of the team’s voluntary workouts.
There is still no indication currently that the Raiders have a deal in place with Miller, but his attendance suggests that talks are at least underway.
Miller is entering the final year of a three-year, $54 million contract with no guaranteed money left, which was the same sticking point defensive end Maxx Crosby brought up with his contract earlier this off-season. Despite struggling early last season as he recovered from off-season shoulder surgery, he bounced back and proved why he remains one of the NFL’s premier left tackles. It is reasonable that Miller wants to be paid as such, and the Raiders still have the cap space needed to make a deal happen with no financial hang-ups.
Nothing is confirmed yet as far as a new extension is concerned, but Miller’s sign of good faith by returning for workouts is a promising sign.
