Pittsburgh Steelers sign ex-Super Bowl champion wide receiver

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed former Los Angeles Rams and Houston Texans wide receiver Ben Skowronek to their practice squad. Skowronek was traded by the Rams to the Texans this offseason for a conditional pick, but he did not make the team, and now lands in Pittsburgh.

Ben Skowronek

Skowronek is a fascinating player, as he can play both fullback and H-back in addition to wide receiver. That is all because of his blocking prowess, and Arthur Smith could find interesting ways to use Skowronek in the context of his offense.

However, more than that, Skowronek is an excellent special teamer. That is something the Steelers lacked in the wide receiver room, and since it seems like Dez Fitzpatrick might not be back, Skowronek will add that element to the room.

He was selected by the Rams out of Notre Dame, where he was teammates with former Steelers wide receiver Miles Boykin. Skowronek won the Super Bowl with the Rams in 2021, and has just over 500 receiving yards in his NFL career.

Along with Brandon Johnson, the two feel like players who could end up on the Steelers’ active roster at some point. It would not be that surprising to see the team turnover some of that room once Roman Wilson is back to fully participating and playing at a high level with the first team offense.
