Pete Carroll is living up to his word after the Las Vegas Raiders retain another free agent

When the Las Vegas Raiders hired former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, he mentioned several times that he wanted to bring as many guys on the defensive side of the ball back, as possible. He's done as good of a job as he's been able to.

It's hard to do that when teams like the Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots are overpaying and offering way more money than what the Raiders think the players are worth. But, they have still managed to bring back guys like Malcolm Koonce, Adam Butler, Darnay Holmes, and now another one -- all who play an important role on the Raiders.

The latest one is a guy that many fans may not hear a lot about, but he's played important snaps when needed. He didn't last year because the depth in the secondary was much better, but he has before. And last year, those snaps were needed, as injuries happened left and right.

They're going to bring back a depth guy, bringing back a bit of continuity on an elite defense. Sure, he didn't play a ton, but continuity is continuity.

Raiders bringing back CB Sam Webb

Sam Webb wasn’t drafted in 2022, but the Raiders signed him as a free agent after the draft. At 6 feet 2 inches and 195 pounds, Webb is a solid athlete. At the 2022 NFL Combine, he ran a 4.48-second 40-yard dash.

In his first season with the Raiders in 2022, Webb played all 17 games, starting three, and recorded 36 tackles, three passes defensed, and one forced fumble. This made him one of the top undrafted rookies that year for tackles. Across 29 career games through 2024, he has 37 tackles, three passes defensed, and one forced fumble, mostly contributing on special teams and as a backup defender.

Webb’s time with the Raiders has had ups and downs. He was cut in August 2023, briefly joined the Carolina Panthers, and then returned to Las Vegas later that year. He only played three pass coverage snaps last season, but Webb brings something that the Raiders obviously like.
